January and February 2024
The Turin Institute for the Deaf, leader of the MoMs project, first met young women and deaf mothers: the dialogue focused on finding a reason why much information regarding sexuality and parenting is still inaccessible to the deaf community. We were particularly struck by how it is still necessary to work to raise awareness not only of healthcare professionals but also of educators and of the deaf community itself to support true mutual support.
Subsequently, health professionals were met. Those who do not work in clinics that already welcome people with disabilities confess to having many knowledge gaps regarding the accessibility of people with disabilities. For example, in their university studies they have never received training on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
